Together with the 11 old gelding, GK Casper, Bertram made it a stunning performance as the last rider to go in the 4- horse jump-off, to finish off with a brilliant clear round in 34.70 seconds. Jos Verlooy (BEL) and Igor had led until Allen’s final round and settled for second in 35.41, while Brian Moggre (USA) finished third with MTM Vivre le Reve in 35.83.

“Everyone wants to win the Grand Prix, last to go, in front of a full house. It was one that I really wasn’t expecting, so it made it all the more sweet,” Bertram says.

Casper has been with Bertram for five years now; Even though the gelding has always been fantastic all the way, it has taken Bertram a bit longer to get him to this level. For most horses, their first season doing this level is as 9-year-olds. But Bertram's patience has paid off well! To finish on top in what was the gelding's World Cup debut, definitely shows Casper's enormous capacity.

"I’ve always said, ‘Whatever he can jump, he can win.' It all came through today," Bertram says.
