Impressive Olympic debut for Bertram and Pacino

Bertram and 9-year-old Irish bred Pacino Amiro, owned by Aiden McGrory, just finished 15th in the Individual Jumping Final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with only eight faults and the second-best time of the 30 contenders.

Runners-up finish in Florida Nations Cup

A strong performance which included six clear rounds from the Irish Show Jumping team of Shane Sweetnam, Bertram Allen, Michael Duffy and Cian O’Connor, saw them finish as runners-up in the $150,000 four-star Nations Cup at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida, which concluded in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).

The highlight class of the seventh week of the 2021 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) was the $401,000 Lugano Diamonds Grand Prix CSI5*. Bertram brought his 9-year-old Pacino Amiro, owned by Aiden McGrory, to his second five-star Grand Prix to finish on top of the podium.

Castlefield does it again, winning the 3* Grand Prix in Florida

Its been quite a week for the new duo, Bertram and Castlefield Vegas in Florida. Today they made it their 3rd win in a week - topping the podium in the 3* $137,000 FEI IDA Development Grand Prix, counting 45 participants.

Victory for Castlefield Vegas in Florida


Bertram Allen (IRL) and Castlefield Vegas (Cassino / Lux Z) had a successful day this week, winning the $1,000 Bainbridge 1.40m CSI5*. The 11-year-old gelding, which just recently joined Bertram's string of horses is owned by Ballywalter Stables LTD and Ger O Neill - Castlefield Sport Horses together.

Giolita (C-Ingmar / Padinus), owned by Ballywalter Farms and Stal het Oosterbrook, is sold to Emma Sargent (US) and JR Show Stables.


Giolita finished off the first competition week in Florida successfully with finishing 4th in the big class on Saturday; the $37,000 FEI CaptiveOne Advisors 1.50m Classic, which attracted 49 starters.

A good start to the 2021 season!

The 2021 season kicked off at Sentower Park last weekend with Giolita (C-Ingmar - Padinus) finishing off the weekend with a 5th place in the 2* Grand Prix. An excellent ending to the weekend and a good start to 2021!

GK Casper to Darragh Kenny

We're excited to announce that GK Casper has been sold to the Irish rider, Darragh Kenny. The 12-year-old gelding by Canto 16 has been a brilliant horse for Bertram over the last years.

Summary from Spain

Our stay in sunny ( and sometimes rainy) Spain has come to an end. The horses have been developing well, with two weeks of jumping at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour (MET) in Oliva Nova, Spain.

Bertram & Voltanos best in CSI1* Grand Prix

Fourteen combinations made it to the jump-off in the CSI1* Grand Prix at Met Oliva, Spain, last Sunday, where Voltanos ( Voltaire / Lordanos) showed to be the fastest. Bertram stopped the clock in 39.03 seconds - only slightly quicker than his younger brother, Harry Allen, who finished in second place.

Both Giolita (by C-Ingmar) and Pacino Amiro proved themself capable for the bigger classes at the CSI4* St Lo last weekend. Giolita opened the show with a fabulous 3rd place in the 1m40 and continued jumping clear in the big class on the following day. On Sunday 8-year-old Pacino Amiro showed himself to be a real fighter (video) by giving it all in the 4* star Grand Prix, despite having his first trip at this level. We are really pleased with him! All in all, a good weekend!

Bertram finished off last week's competition in St Tropez with some good results.

Bertram brought six horses to the competitions at Sentower Park this weekend: Voltanos, Casper, Curios Vdcq Z, Pacino Amiro, Classified & Dancing Queen.

Runner-up spot in Grimaud

Pacino Amiro continues his success from Aachen last week with finishing as runner-up in today's 1m45 ranking class in Grimaud. The 8-year-old gelding owned by Aiden McGrory jumped a double clear, fast enough to make it a solid second place. Eleven combinations made it to the jumpoff. Home rider Nicolas Delmotte (FRA) took the win. 


Lafayette Van Overis sold to Adrienne Sternlicht (US)

Lafayette Van Overis (Kashmir van Schuttershof / Tauber An het Kapelhof), which Bertram took over the mount in July 2019, is sold to Adrienne Sternlicht (US).

Bertram wins the speed class in Aachen

Bertram and the 8-year-old gelding Pacino Amiro scored an impressive win in the 1m45 speed class in CSI3 * Aachen last week. Despite the high speed, the duo managed to keep the zero and finish in 60.23 seconds, with more than a second to spare over German runner-up Richard Vogel. Michael Jung finished third in 63.85 seconds.

Besides from a brilliant runner-up finish in the Czech Nations Cup on Friday, Bertram earned himself two more runner-up placings in Prague last weekend.

Despite the bad weather, it has been a good weekend at the CSI3* show in Deauville, France.

New future prospect to Bertram

The exciting seven-year-old gelding Voltanos (Voltaire & Lordanos), bred by Vanessa Meyer, has been added to Bertram's string of horses. The gelding has previously competed at international level by Victoria Klatte.
" I think he has all the potential," Bertram says.

Dawsons Flex wins the 7 & 8yo Grand Prix in Opglabbeek



It was our 7yo gelding Dawsons Flex's (owned by Ballywalter Stables) turn to steal the spotlight last weekend at the 2* show at Sentower Park. After some good rounds throughout the weekend, he finished up with adding a victory in the 7 & 8-year-old Grand Prix on Sunday, stopping the clock more than a second faster than runner up Abbie Sweetnam and Brown Star Z

Runner-up finish for Bertram and Go to Fortuna in 2* Grand Prix

Bertram and Go To Fortuna finished as runners-up in yesterday's two-star Grand Prix at Lier in Belgium where only 13 riders made it to the jump-off in a field of 80 horse-and-rider combinations.

Bertram and Go To Fortuna with runner-up finish in Belgian 2* Grand Prix

After winning the 7yo class in Lier with Pacino Amiro, Bertram & Go to Fortuna recorded a runner-up spot in the 2* Grand Prix in Lier this weekend, only beaten by his younger brother Harry by just three-hundredths of a second. Belgium’s Gilles Thomas finished third.

Bertram also made it a 3rd place in the 6yo class riding Italy Hdh, and a fifth place in the 1m35 with Angela De Kreisker.

Bertram made it three podium placings in Peelbergen last weekend. On Thursday he finished third with the seven-year-old gelding Pacino Amiro, owned by Aiden McGrory, and the day after the duo made it a win in the seven-year-old class. Ballywalter Farms' Calafrieda showed top form on Thursday to finish third in the 1m40.

This week Bertram will be competing in Lier, Belgium.

Sensational World Cup win for Bertram and GK Casper

Bertram and GK Casper scored a sensational win in the $210,000 FEI World Cup Grand Prix in Toronto (CAN) this weekend, in what was the gelding's World Cup debut!

From Lexington to Toronto

After a very successful show in CSI5* Tryon, Bertram and his horses enjoyed a week off before they headed to CSI4*Lexington, where the 'star' from Tryon, the 8-year-old gelding Lafayette, made it another brilliant 3rd place in the Feature $135,000 International Jumper Class.

This week Bertram is competing at the CSI4* show in Toronto, Canada, which marks the end of Bertram's four-week-long tour overseas.

Bertram makes it a double win in CSI5* Tryon

The 8-year-old gelding Lafayette Van Overis (Kashmir van Schuttershof / Tauber An het Kapelhof), which Bertram took over the mount in July this year, was on top of his game in Tryon last weekend, with winning both the $36,000 1m45 Speed Class on Friday and the $72,000 1m50 Sunday Classic.

The second week at Sentower Park, turned out well as Bertram and the 8-year-old gelding Go To Fortuna once again delivered a super round to finish 3rd in the 2* Grand Prix in Opglabbeek, Belgium. The future looks bright for this gelding by Eldorado Van De Zeshoek (S) / Vancouver (DS) owned by Ballywalter Farms and Noel Delahunty.

Bertram and GK Casper added another top placing to their 5* Merit list last week when they finished as runners-up in the 1m55/60 class at the Athina Onassis Horse Show in Saint Tropez, Franze. Kent Farrington took the win, Darragh Kenny finished third.

Bertram repeated his success from last weekend with finishing third in Saturday's three-star Grand Prix in Knokke, Belgium, riding GK Casper. Dominique Hendrickx (BEL) took the win, Nicola Philippaerts (BEL) second.

Another win for Go To Fortuna

26 horse and rider combinations came to start in the Youngster Tour during the first day of the CSI5* show at Glock Horse Performance Center in Austria last weekend, but none of them managed to beat the talented 8yo gelding Go To Fortuna ( Eldorado Van De Zeshoek / Vancouver), who recorded the winning time of 60.85 sec. The promising gelding finished 8th in the Youngster final on Sunday. 

Next stop for Bertram will be the CSI5* Bordeaux.

Valkenswaard United finish second in the GCL 2018 Championship

The GCL team Valkenswaard United (consisting of the four exceptional riders Marcus Ehning, Jur Vrieling, Alberto Zorzi and Maurice Tebbel in addition to Bertram Allen), headed to Doha last weekend for the 2018 GCL Final as the main challengers to the London Knights team all season, but were unable to deliver the result they needed in Doha to take the Championship win.

Bertram kicked off the Indoor Season last weekend with some good rounds at the CSI3* show in Zwolle.

Runner-up finish for Bertram and Hector in Rome

Hector was in phenomenal form this weekend at the five-star show in Rome. On Sunday, the solid duo of Bertram and Hector made it a runner-up finish in the 1m50 jump-off class, after an exciting jump-off where Niels Bruynseels (BEL) took the win, and Pius Schwizer (SUI) finished third. The duo also made it a third place in the 1m45 on Friday.

Bertram and Hector van d'Abdijhoeve finished third in the 1m55 jump-off class yesterday at the Global Champions Tour show in London. The talented Ballywalter Farms Stallion jumped a perfect double clear in 42.87, just ahead of Denis Lynch and The Sinner in fourth (43.62). Runner-up finish for Bertram and Calafrieda in the CSI2* Valkenswaard Grand Prix

Bertram and the talented Holsteiner mare Calafrieda (Canto 16 - Unke ( Lavall 5) finished in runner-up position in the CSI2* Valkenswaard Grand Prix on Wednesday, on the final day at Tops International Arena. Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet and Sandero speeded to victory on his nine-year-old Holsteiner gelding Sandero. Bertram and Pieter Devos (BEL) took all the risks, to finish second and third.

The impressive young stallion Go To Fortuna, who has already won two classes in Valkenswaard during the two weeks of the CSI2* competitions at Tops International Arena, once again proved his capasity this week with two runner-up finishes in today's and yesterday's 7yo classes. Bertram wins the 1m45 ranking class at Tops International Arena

Bertram Allen earned his third win at the Tops International Arena yesterday with a win in the 1m45 ranking class riding the fresh and talented gelding Christy Jnr.  Jessica Springsteen (USA) finished second and Sanne Thijssen (NED) third.
Earlier this season Christy won the 1m50 pairs competiton in Paris together with Edwina Tops Alexander.

Go to Fortuna ( Eldorado Van De Zeshoek) repeated his success from last week in Valkenswaard with another win in the 7yo class at Tops International Arena. On the same day, 8-year-old Calafrieda jumped double clear to take fourth place in the 1m45 ranking class.

Bertram and the 8-year-old mare Calafrieda ( Canto / Unke (Lavall)) were unbeatable in the 1m45 class last Friday at the CSI2* Mediterranian Equestrian Tour in Spain.

Bertram with three podium finishes in Miami

The GCL team Valkensward United, in which Bertram has successfully been a part of since the beginning in 2016, 
have once again made it to the podium in the 2018 Global Champions League series. Last weekend, the team finished second in Miami, just a few weeks after they finished third in the opening leg in Mexico, which put them at the top of the overall rankings as the 16-event season unfolds. The team fielded Alberto Zorzi and Bertram Allen.

Bertram and Casper win the CSI2* Grand Prix of Peelbergen

Bertram and Casper concluded their weekend at Kronenburg in the Netherlands with a win in the two star Grand Prix, in addition to two top 3 placings earlier in the week; a runner-up finish in the 1m40 and a 3rd place in the 1m45. The 10yo talented gelding finished the Grand Prix with a brilliant double clear. Germany's Marcus Ehning finished as runner-up while Italy's Lorenzo de Luca finished third.

Runner-up finish for Bertram and Gin Chin in Mexico

Bertram and Gin Chin van het Lindenhof finished in runner-up position in the Grand Prix qualifier (GNP TROPHY) last Saturday in Mexico, stopping the clock at 57.78 seconds. Pius Schwizer won the class, stopping the clock at 57.73 seconds, with only a tiny difference separating the two.

Bertram and the 12yo gelding have made it to the podium five times since Bertram took over the ride of the talented horse last autumn. For sure this is a successful combination.


Pole position for Bertram and his teammates in the GCL of Mexico

Once again, the 2016 overall winners, Valkenswaard United, made it to the podium at the opening leg of the 2018 GCL season last weekend in Mexico City. Bertram and Gin Chin van het Lindenhof took part in the first round with only one pole down.

GK Casper is really showing off in Spain. Yesterday, he took his third win at Montemedio, continuing on his success from last week where he won two classes. Yesterday's class, the Big Tour C, counted a field of 61 participants.

Another win for Bertram and GK Casper in Spain

GK Casper has been jumping exceptionally well lately. On Wednesday the 10-year-old gelding won the 1.35 m class, and yesterday he repeated his excellent form by winning the 1.40m in a field of 57 riders at the Sunshine Tour in Spain. 

Another horse who's doing well is the 10-year-old gelding It's Me who finished 7th yesterday in the 1.45m.

Bertam will stay in Spain for another three weeks.

Victory for Bertram Allen and GK Casper in Spain

Bertram and the 10-year-ol gelding GK Casper were unbeatable in the 1m35 class yesterday on the opening day of the CSI2* Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera.

Bertram crossed the line clear at 67.7 sec., followed by Daigneux-Lange Fabienne ( BEL) in second place (72.31 sec.) and O'Neill Gerard (IRE), third (72.5 sec.). The class counted 73 participants. 

On the same day Bertram and the 10-year-old gelding, It's Me, finished a beautiful clear round in the 1m40 class. View video.

For the following three weeks Bertram will be attending the Sunshine Tour in Spain, one of Europe’s most important winter equestrian events located a few kilometers away from the Cádiz district of Vejer de la Frontera.

Bertram and Guinness with two top 7 placings in the Young Sires Masters in Bordeaux

Bertram and his stallion Guinness(Nabab de Reve / Katell XX) delivered two superb clear rounds in the Bordeaux Young Sires Masters class this weekend at the Jumping International de Bordeaux, proving the young stallion´s great ability in the ring. With a fifth and seventh place in a starting line-up of 19 combinations, Guinness showed himself as a promising horse for the future.

Harry Allen wins the "Rising Star Award" at the FEI AWARD GALA 2017

Harry Allen (IRL), double gold medallist at the FEI European Pony Championships in Kaposvar (HUN) last August, was recognised for his numerous outstanding performances throughout the year, winning the FEI Rising Star Award at the ninth edition of the FEI Awards Gala 2017 at the KIBON Avanza in Montevideo (URU) last night. Valkenswaard United, who took the title in the inaugural GCL last year, were represented by Bertram Allen (Molly Malone) and Alberto Zorzi (Fair Light van’t Heike) in the GCL final in DOHA this weekend.

Bertram and GK Casper finished third in the CSI2* 1m45 Grand Prix at Sentower Park this weekend, where only 9 out of 54 starters managed to jump clear. The Egyptian rider, Abdel Said, snatched the winner's prize, while Kevin Gielen finished 2nd.

This week Bertram will be heading to Oslo Horse Show for the opening round of the 2017/2018 FEI World Cup series. Bertram is bringing Dino, Izzy and It's Me.

Bertram and his two horses, Dino W and Molly Malone have had great success this weekend at the FEI Nations Cup TM Jumping Final CSIO BARCELONA.

The Irish Show Jumping team finished as runners-up in yesterday's FEI Challenge Cup final in Barcelona, Spain. The reigning European Champions finished with a total of nine faults. The victory went to The United Arab Emirates who finished with only three time faults. Brazil finished third on 11 faults.

Rodrigo Pessoa’s team of Shane Sweetnam, Bertram Allen, Denis Lynch and Cian O’Connor, produced an outstanding performance over three demanding days of jumping, to snatch the coveted gold medal yesterday from hosts Sweden who had been leading heading into the final day at the Ullevi arena.

Bertram and Molly deliver two good rounds in the Aga Khan trophy.

The Irish team of Bertram Allen, Cian O'Connor, Mark McAuley and Denis Lynch finished fifth in yesterdays Aga Khan Nations Cup at the Dublin Horse Show. The team were joint leaders after the first round with zero faults, but finished 17th in the second round. Bertram and Molly delivered a solid performance with two great rounds and only one down in the second round.

All the horses have been unbelievable during the first three days of the Dublin Horse Show. On Wednesday, Bertram and the nine-year-old Izzy by Picobello were runners-up in the 1.50 - 1.60m Sport Ireland Classic. Yesterday, they won the 1m55 Anglesea Serpentine Stakes. Today Bertram and the seven-year-old mare Calafrieda won the 1m40 International 7 to 8-year olds (Round 2) by Connolly's Red Mills, after having finished 4th in the first round.
