It was an epic afternoon of sporting drama, pressure and historic prize money in one single showjumping competition, where only six teams went into yesterday's GCL Super Cup Final Round 2 with a total of €6.4 million at stake and a whopping €2.74 million for the winners.

A brilliant clear for Marcus and Bertram in round one, and eight faults to add from the third team rider, Alberto Zorzi, the Valkenswaarder team topped the list into the second round, with Madrid in Motion close behind, also on 8 faults.

In the second round, Bertram and his new mount Harley finished another brilliant clear, as the only combination on zero faults, but a pole down for both Marcus and Alberto, and a time penalty in the second round put the team in second place on a final total of 17.

The Madrid In Motion trio of Marc Houtzager, Maikel van der Vleuten and Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, failed to make the time in the second round but left all the fences intact to claim the first place prize-money of €2,743,040 on 11 faults.

Bertram and Harley were also successful in the 1m50 class on Friday, and finished in 9th place.

After an amazing four days of top sport at its best and spectacular entertainment featuring special effects not seen in show jumping before, the first edition of the GC Prague Playoffs were declared a “milestone” in the history of the sport.
