Impressive Olympic debut for Bertram and Pacino

Bertram and 9-year-old Irish bred Pacino Amiro, owned by Aiden McGrory, just finished 15th in the Individual Jumping Final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with only eight faults and the second-best time of the 30 contenders.

Bertram was 25th into the arena after seeing many riders struggle with the enormous and challenging 1.65m track. Unfortunately, the pair got a pole down in the treble combination after a flowing start, knocking the first fence before doing very well to get out over the next two. Another unlucky pole fell at a late part of the course, leaving them on a total of eight faults, an excellent championship debut for the only 9-year-old gelding who finished 6th in yesterday's qualification, counting 72 participants.

After a dramatic six-horse jump-off, Britain's Ben Maher secured the gold medal riding Explosion W. Peder Fredricson grabbed the silver and Netherlands' Maikel van der Vleuten finished in third.

Bertram and Pacino will now get a well-deserved break before getting ready for the Team competition on Thursday.
