A stunning jump-off performance from Bertram and the 11-year-old GK Casper, earned victory in Friday night's 1m55 feature competition at the five-star Global Champions Tour show in Doha, Qatar.
With 16 combinations making it through fault free to the second round, the jump-off was always going to be very competitive. At the finish, Allen had to be at his brilliant best to take the win. A scorching clear round in 33.75 seconds saw him take the top prize of €36,450, outpacing a top-class field.
Belgium’s Karel Cox and Dublin van Overis finished as runners-up in 34.07, while French rider Julien Epaillard and Usual Suspect d’Auge finished third in 34.12.
Bertram was thrilled by his horse:
“I have to give a lot of credit to my horse, it was very hard to beat Julien so I gave it everything. You had to catch everywhere exactly how you wanted it. If you had one place where you had one more stride, you were out.”
